Diversity, Representation, and Decolonization in the Music History Classroom

Abstract：In this round table discussion, we will discuss issues of diversity, representation, and decolonization in the music history classroom. Taking Margaret E. Walker’s “Towards a Decolonized Music History Classroom” as our starting-point for conversation, we will explore such questions as: What does it mean to “decolonize” the music history classroom? Why is decolonization, diversity, and representation important in music history? How can we challenge Eurocentrism in our own pedagogy? How do institutions work with and against educators in these endeavors? Join us in delving into these important and difficult topics on March 26th.
