Chinese musicologist and pianist Mingfei Li is currently a dissertating Ph.D. Candidate in Musicology with doctoral minors in Music Theory and Piano Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her dissertation focuses on late-eighteenth-century German theater and operas. Her secondary research interests include music and trauma studies, nineteenth-century musical transcriptions and arrangements, and twentieth- to twenty-first-century Asian/Asian American music.
Her work on music and trauma studies is forthcoming in the Oxford Handbook on Music, Sound, and Trauma Studies by the Oxford University Press. She has presented at the prestigious Mozart Colloquium, an international invitation-only seminar devoted to Mozart scholarships, Utrecht University in the Netherlands, and “the AMS/SMT/SEM Joint Annual Conference” held in New Orleans (November 2022).
As a highly regarded solo pianist and chamber musician, Li has appeared at competitions and venues across the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has won the first prizes of chamber music at the London International Music Competition (2022) and Medici International Music Competition (2022) with the former Duo Florentes, and has been recognized for her musical achievements with the former DYM Trio as a participant at the prestigious Ilmari Hanikainen International Piano Chamber Music Competition in Finland in 2023. She is a current founding member of Augusta Duo, whose is to perform and promote musical compositions by living composers and historically underrepresented composers.
Li is a recipient of the Jacobs Doctoral Fellowship, a multiyear fully funded fellowship. She has been appointed as an Associate Instructor of Music History and has previously been appointed as an Associate Instructor of Piano at the Jacobs School of Music. She was for two years on the faculty of the Young Pianists Program, a year-round pre-college piano program at the Jacobs School of Music. Li holds a Performance Diploma under Arnaldo Cohen II and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance under Karen Shaw from the Jacobs School. During her graduate studies in Piano Performance, Li has received a full scholarship, the Artistic Excellence Award, and the Irving & Lena Lo Scholarship. Li also holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance under Catherine Kautsky with a minor in German from Lawrence University, where she graduated as Commencement Student Marshal. Her other mentors include Luba Poliak, Anthony Padilla, Spencer Myer, and Ya-Fei Chuang.

李明霏在2022年5月、7月，和11月，分别受邀于伦敦大英图书馆、荷兰乌特勒支大学、美国音乐学协会，在“莫扎特研讨会”、“音乐与创伤”国际会议、美国音乐学协会音乐理论协会民族音乐学协会联合国家会议上分享学术成果。李明霏在“莫扎特研讨会”非公开邀请制的国际学术会议上，对莫扎特的歌剧《魔笛》研究成果的分享，使其成为在国际上被认可的莫扎特学者。李明霏现任雅各布音乐学院音乐史讲师，并担任雅各布学院音乐学研究所的主席。
李明霏于2020年荣获雅各布音乐学院演奏家文凭，师承著名国际钢琴大师Arnaldo Cohen II，并受Spencer Myer博士的指导；于2019年荣获雅各布音乐学院钢琴演奏硕士学位，师承前钢琴系主任Karen Shaw博士。主修钢琴演奏期间，李明霏荣获钢琴系全额奖学金、艺术卓越奖、Irving & Lena Lo奖，并担任雅各布音乐学院钢琴系讲师及雅各布音乐学院附属学校钢琴教师。李明霏于2017年以钢琴演奏主修及德语与德国文学辅修专业毕业于劳伦斯大学，在校期间师承钢琴系主任Catherine Kautsky博士，并同时受Luba Poliak与Anthony Padilla两位钢琴家的指导；于劳伦斯大学毕业时，李明霏荣获美国大学本科毕业典礼最高荣誉 Commencement Marshal。
作为一名青年钢琴家，李明霏的独奏和室内乐演出足迹遍布美国。李明霏目前为奥古斯塔二重奏的成员（另一名成员为女高音歌唱家殷乐博士）。李明霏曾与其他室内乐组合荣获伦敦国际音乐比赛与美第奇国际音乐比赛的室内乐组一等奖等荣誉。
